Columbia River Mental Health Services won a competitive grant process and will get $52,909 in federal funds for a housing subsidy program called New Dreams Two.

The program will provide tenant-based subsidies for at least 14 homeless adults who have a mental illness and qualify for federal Section 8 housing support. The grant will last for two years.

The funding for New Dreams Two was part of $201 million awarded to 731 new homeless programs across the country, and nearly $2.6 million in Washington.

According to the latest data reported by more than 3,000 U.S. cities and counties, overall homelessness declined 2.1 percent between 2010 and 2011, and by 12 percent among veterans.
