A man was hit and killed Tuesday morning by a freight train on a bridge over the Toutle River about 18 miles north of Longview, officials said.
A southbound Union Pacific freight train heading from Tacoma to Portland hit an adult male who was trespassing on the bridge just before 9 a.m., said Gus Melonas, BNSF Railway spokesman.
It was a confirmed fatality, he said.
Cowlitz County and BNSF officials are investigating.
The track was closed until 10:45 a.m. delaying seven trains, including four freight trains and two Amtrak passenger trains.
This was the fourth fatality on BNSF tracks this year, Melonas said.
