Two suspects in Vancouver robbery arrested in Salem

Police arrested two suspects in a Vancouver armed robbery Thursday night in Salem, Ore.

Salem police spotted a car that was suspected to be the getaway vehicle just before 10 a.m. near the intersection of Northeast Center and Northeast 24th streets, a Salem Police Department release said.

Officers attempted a traffic stop and the driver tried to elude them. Eventually three people ran from the vehicle, police said.

After searching the area with three K9 teams, police took suspect Martin A. Gonzalez into custody. Officers soon found and arrested a second suspect, Alan Armenta of Salem.

Both were booked into the Marion County Jail. Gonzales was booked on suspicion of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempt to elude and a robbery warrant from Vancouver.

The third suspect was not found, police said.

Police responded to a reported armed robbery earlier Thursday at the Taqueria Market in the Orchards Marketplace shopping center near state Highway 500 and Fourth Plain Boulevard.

Police were told that two Hispanic men and one white man entered the store. One of the Hispanic men displayed a handgun, said Kim Kapp, Vancouver police spokeswoman.

No one was reported injured. The suspects left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives in Vancouver’s Major Crimes Unit will continue the robbery investigation.
