An hourslong search by Battle Ground police ended Wednesday night when officers were unable to find a person who ran away from a traffic stop.

The incident started around 10 p.m. when an occupant of a car, possibly a passenger, fled after it was pulled over near the Taco Bell on West Main Street, said Chief Bob Richardson.

Several Battle Ground officers, including a canine unit, and a few deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office set up containment of the area around Main, Northwest 18th Avenue and Northwest Third Street, Richardson said.

Police stayed in the area until about 1:30 a.m. but were unable to find the suspect.

Richardson isn’t sure if the person was positively identified because no report was taken.
