Talking Points: Clarifying Braun situation is job No. 1

There has been a good amount of confusion about Ryan Braun’s positive test for elevated levels of testosterone, his subsequent 50-game suspension and the overturning of that suspension.

So Talking Points is here to help.

Dino Laurenzi Jr., the man who collected Braun’s urine sample last October, says he has been a collector for Comprehensive Drug Testing since 2005 and has taken more than 600 samples for Major League Baseball’s drug-test program.

So in other words, when it comes to collecting urine samples, this guy is a whiz.

He said he followed CDT protocol by storing the sample at his home until Monday when there was no FedEx office located within 50 minutes of the stadium that would ship packages over the weekend.

So in other words, he took the wee-wee all the way home.

Laurenzi said he needed to make the statement to set the record straight. Of course, that would not have been necessary if the confidentiality of the test results had not been breached prior to the appeals process being completed.

So in other words, there was a leak.

There were differing opinions of the Angels’ Rally Monkey at Dodgers camp on Tuesday.

Manager Don Mattingly likes it.

“I kind of like the Rally Monkey, I do. It’s funny,” Mattingly said. “I try and tell guys, ‘You guys should like the Rally Monkey because when the Rally Monkey comes out, then you’ve got a lead.’ I’d rather have a lead than be behind.”

Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp had other ideas.

“I don’t like the Rally Monkey. I’m scared of the Rally Monkey,” Kemp said. “You’re out there in the outfield and the monkey just pops up on the screen, that’s kind of scary.”

So here’s a thought for other National League teams trying to throw Kemp off his game a Rally Clown!
