Volcanoes fly higher to end losing streak

Three players with double-doubles helped the Vancouver Volcanoes end a four-game losing streak as they beat the Yamhill Highflyers 123-119 in International Basketball League action Friday at the O’Connell Sports Complex at Clark College.

Vancouver (9-8) was led by Alex Hartman’s 23 points and 12 rebounds. Devin Uskoski had 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Josh Tarver had 15 points and 10 assists.

Andre Murray led all Volcanoes scorers with 24 points.

Yamhill (0-6), based out of McMinnville, Ore., and playing a short season after not fielding a team in 2011, was led by Steffen Harvey’s 26 points.

The Volcanoes close out the regular season with a 5 p.m. game Sunday against the Salem Soliders. Prior to the game, from 2-4 p.m., the team is hosting a free community barbecue in the Clark College parking lot on Fort Vancouver Way.
