The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday that Gary Sparks was the man who died in the Wednesday afternoon plane crash at Pearson Field.
According to Federal Aviation Administration records, Sparks, of Portland, was licensed as an airline transport pilot in 2008.
He died just after 4 p.m. Wednesday when a home-built aircraft owned by Hannibal Woodward, 42, of Vancouver crashed between the Pearson runway and Fort Vancouver.
Bystanders attempted to perform CPR on Sparks, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Woodward, who was also in the plane, was sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in critical condition. By Friday afternoon, he had improved to serious condition, a hospital house supervisor said.
