County health officials are advising people to avoid swimming in Lacamas Lake due to a blue-green algae that can produce nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and liver injury.
Lacamas Lake Regional Park and Heritage Park remain open. The water within the shelters and restrooms are unaffected by lake water and are safe to drink, officials advised.
Pets should not have contact with the lake’s water either, officials said.
The blue-green algae grows during warm weather months and gives water a scummy texture and green color. In addition to the aforementioned side effects, it can also cause rashes, blisters and other skin irritations.
Clark County Public Health will continue testing the lake and advise the public when water contact is safe.
