A section of Northwest Pacific Highway near La Center will close for two months starting next week while crews rebuild and stabilize the roadway near Jenny Creek.
Workers will focus on a 600-foot section of the highway where an underground landslide has been gradually moving — about a half-inch per year — since monitoring started in 1999. The shifting ground has caused cracking and areas of sunken pavement, according to the Clark County Public Works department.
The closure starts Friday, July 6, and will affect a half-mile section of the highway. No vehicles will be able to pass through, as 600 feet will be completely removed, according to the county.
The $2 million project will employ a “deep patch” method to create a strong road designed to withstand some movement, according to the county. Workers will excavate the land below the road, then fill it in with layers of geotextile fabric and rock before building a wider road over the top of it.
