I received some sad news recently that longtime weather observer Phil Harris from Washougal passed away May 31. He had contributed his monthly rainfall to me for this column for many years. He was a great guy and will be missed. My condolences to his family.
Monday proved not to be a mud puddle type of day but was a bit muddy considering the extensive cloud cover at times, with only a few sun breaks scattered here and there. I had many reports from Saturday about 3:15 p.m. of a very heavy shower over downtown Vancouver.
Weather observer Murphy Dennis sent me an email with this description, “Just thought it interesting that on Saturday at my home near Clark County Rifles, I had 1.40″ rain and surpassed May totals. I was downtown at the Farmers Market getting my usual fix of fresh Morel mushrooms and left just before 3 p.m. to take my purchases to the car and get rain gear. I returned for some coffee just as your ‘frog strangler’ hit. I swear the rain drops were bouncing a foot or more above the pavement. … Quite an interesting Saturday!”
Looking at the rest of the week’s forecast it appears that it will stay on the cool side with a threat of showers, except for Wednesday and Thursday. However, looking at the National Weather Service website, it has a chance of showers each day all the way through Monday.
