The Vancouver Police Department is accepting applications through July 20 for the fall Neighbors on Watch training academy.

The program trains and teams volunteers to patrol city neighborhoods and report suspicious activity to police. The volunteers do not intervene at crime scenes, but are trained in observation, police radio communications, first aid and other skills.

Each volunteer must live within the city limits, be a U.S. citizen, pass a background check, and be able to dedicate four hours a month to the program.

For information or to apply, contact Kelly Cheney, 360-487-7567.
