Commissioners from Clark and Cowlitz counties will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday to appoint an interim state senator to finish out the final months of Joseph Zarelli’s term. Zarelli resigned from office May 31.

On June 18, Republican precinct committee officers selected three finalists for commissioners to choose from: state Rep. Ann Rivers, R-La Center; Battle Ground precinct committee officer Cindy Johnson, and state representative candidate Liz Pike.

Rivers, who is already on the November ballot to replace Zarelli, is the Republican Party’s top choice. Although Johnson and Pike are on the list that commissioners may choose from, they both said they would like the six county commissioners to select Rivers for the appointment.

The meeting takes place in the commissioners’ sixth-floor hearing room in the Clark County Public Services Building, 1300 Franklin St. in Vancouver.
