The Columbia Springs environmental education center is seeking volunteers to help remove invasive plants from its 100-acre Vancouver campus this Saturday.
Columbia Springs staff will help coordinate the effort that largely targets English Ivy. Removing the aggressive plant helps native trees thrive and restores diversity on the forest floor, according to the organization.
All volunteers are welcome. Participants should bring sturdy shoes, water and weather-appropriate clothing, according to Columbia Springs. Children younger than 16 must have parental permission; those younger than 14 must have parental supervision.
Training and orientation begins at 9 a.m. Columbia Springs is at the former Vancouver Trout Hatchery, 12208 S.E. Evergreen Highway. The work should wrap up by 1 p.m.
