Washougal is currently accepting applications to fill a vacancy on its council.

Longtime councilman Jon Russell is leaving Washougal at the beginning of July to take a job with anti-abortion group Students for Life of America, based in Manassas, Va.

Application packets are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 26. Packets can be picked up at city hall, 1701 C St., or downloaded at www.cityofwashougal.us.

Vancouver Assistant City Attorney Brent Boger applied last week for the vacancy. Boger said if he were appointed, he would continue working full-time for the city of Vancouver.

Boger is the only applicant as of Monday, said Jennifer Forsberg, Washougal’s finance director/city clerk.

Candidate interviews are scheduled for Monday, July 2, with swearing in of a new member to follow that evening.

Russell’s seat will be up for election in the November 2013 general election.
