What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

The world’s highest-paid athlete is in jail. The guy in second place just lost a title fight, and the man who held the distinction for a decade is now third.
Forbes has released its list of the 100 highest paid athletes, and boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is No. 1. Mayweather, who made $85 million for two fights last year, is currently serving a three-month jail sentence in Las Vegas for domestic battery.
Boxer Manny Pacquiao is second on the magazine’s list at $62 million from earnings and endorsements. Pacquiao lost his WBO welterweight title to Timothy Bradley earlier this month.
Tiger Woods, No. 1 on the list since 2001, made $59.4 million to place third. LeBron James of the Miami Heat is fourth ($53 million).
Thirty football players made the top 100, with Peyton Manning tops among them at No. 10.

Nothing that happened in Washington, D.C., on Monday will change the view of Roger Clemens. The majority of baseball fans will continue to believe he lied to Congress when he said he didn’t use steroids. The verdict in his trial was never about the truth.
Rather, it was about a case that never should have seen a federal courthouse once, let alone the two times it did. And yet justice department lawyers pushed on and on for weeks, but all they ended up proving was they couldn’t take the obsession of a few spotlight-seeking politicians and turn it into a conviction.
This was a bad trial to begin with, one that only got worse as the public said it wanted to move on.

Thanks to CNBC’s Darren Rovell’s twittering we now know this:
1) Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee is making 51/2 times the money as R.A. Dickey this year.
2) Lee has ZERO wins, Dickey now has 11.
3) Lee, with his ZERO wins makes $117,486 per in-season day.
4) Dickey, with his 11 wins, is making $21,311 per in-season day.
What Rovell didn’t point out is both pitchers were once Mariners.
