Portland — The Portland metro area’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8 percent in May, unchanged from April, the Oregon Employment Department reported Monday. The year-ago rate was 9 percent.
An estimated 92,600 area residents were unemployed and looking for work. The metro area, which includes Clark and Skamania counties in Washington, added 5,100 jobs (seasonally adjusted) in May, following a similar gain (5,800 jobs) in April. Over the year, employment is up 20,200 jobs, or 2.1 percent. May employment numbers for Clark County will be released Tuesday.
