A 45-year-old woman died Saturday while kayaking on the Little White Salmon River in the Columbia River Gorge.

The incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. on an inaccessible stretch of the river, which flows into the Columbia via Drano Lake east of Carson.

The woman’s identity, hometown and exact circumstances of the incident were not available Saturday evening, but Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox said CPR had been performed on the woman to no avail.

A technical rescue team from Vancouver was called in to help retrieve the woman’s body, Cox said. Wind River Search and Rescue was also involved.
