Vancouver Marathon will create bevy of road closures Sunday

Several thousand runners and walkers will hit Vancouver roadways Sunday morning for the Vancouver USA Marathon.

Motorists will find road closures in and around downtown between 6 a.m. and early Sunday afternoon.

All freeways and exits will be open. According to event organizers, here are the major roads and intersections that drivers should avoid:

Downtown Vancouver

The races start and finish on Columbia between Sixth and Eighth streets. Also, Eighth Street will be closed 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. between Broadway and Esther.

All traffic traveling east on Mill Plain Boulevard will be diverted onto Fourth Plain Boulevard 7 to 9:30 a.m.

Frenchman’s Bar and Vancouver Lake

Throughout the morning, one-way traffic will be controlled by a pace car and flaggers from Lower River Road near Vancouver Lake to the entrance of Frenchman’s Bar.

Uptown Vancouver

Main Street will be closed 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. between McLaughlin Boulevard and 25th Street. There will be limited access to McLoughlin Boulevard between Fort Vancouver Way and Franklin Street.

Other intersections

The intersection of Mill Plain and Fort Vancouver Way will be closed 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. West-bound travelers on Mill Plain will be diverted north to Fourth Plain. Eastbound traffic on Mill Plain will be directed to the I-5 northbound on-ramp.

The Fort Vancouver roundabout at Evergreen Boulevard and Fifth Street will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Fred Meyer Grand Central, Columbia House and Grand Boulevard will be open, but expect delays 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Evergreen Boulevard between Shorewood Drive and Fifth Street will have one-way traffic controlled by flaggers from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Wintler Park and access road will be closed 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Columbia Way and Columbia House Boulevard will be open with flaggers directing traffic. Expect delays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Beaches and McMenamins area will be controlled by flaggers. Delays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Columbia Way at the land bridge entrance will be controlled by flaggers. Delays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
