The Oregon Department of Transportation has canceled tonight’s planned lifts on the southbound side of the Interstate 5 Bridge. Overnight closures are still scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights as crews continue repair work, according to ODOT.
ODOT is working to replace faulty rollers that help guide the one of the bridge’s huge counterweights up and down during a lift. This week, an engineering firm is helping ODOT make sure the counterweight is in proper position.
The work will close the bridge’s southbound span from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday, then again from 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. During the closures, drivers heading from Vancouver to Portland can use Interstate 205 instead. Northbound traffic will not be affected.
