Zeviar earns master’s degree

Dorothy D. Zeviar recently graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Florida with a master’s degree in public health and a certificate in disaster management.

She previously graduated from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, and from Seattle University with a doctorate in educational leadership.

She lives in Camas with her husband, Fiorin T. Zeviar.

Girls’ soccer team seeks raffle prizes by June 20

Local supporters of a girls’ soccer team are hoping to secure financial donations, as well as raffle prizes, from the community to purchase new uniforms.

The tax-deductible donations for “United 92” are due by Wednesday, June 20. The team, consisting of players age 16 to 18, is part of the Adidas Timbers Alliance/Vancouver United Timbers Club merger. The new uniforms will sport the “Vancouver Timbers” name.

Suggested raffle prize ideas include spa packages, weekend getaways at the beach, car detail packages, cash, a set of new tires, a photography package for wedding or senior pictures, housecleaning packages, carpet cleaning, handyman or electrician services for a day, dog boarding or information technology services to set up a wireless system at a home or business.

Ticket sales will begin Thursday, June 21. A public drawing will be held Thursday, July 26, at 6 p.m., at Burgerville, 518 N.E. Third Ave., Camas. Live music and family friendly events are planned from 3 to 6 p.m., and United 92 will receive 10 percent of all sales during that time.

Drug prevention team seeks new members

The Clark County Strong Teens Against Substance Hazards and Abuse peer education program is recruiting youth to fill vacant positions for the 2012-13 program year.

Clark County STASHA peer educators are dedicated to addressing alcohol and other drug issues among youth in Clark County. The goals of the program include:

*Promote awareness through outreach and educational programs

*Advise various county groups on how best to address substance abuse at a community level

*Support programs and policies that minimize abuse of alcohol and other drugs

Peer educators represent diverse geographic regions and populations of the county. The group is comprised of up to 20 youth.

Representatives include those who have never used drugs or alcohol, youth with past experimentation/use and youth who have completed treatment and are now in recovery.

Youth serve a one-year term and commit to attending evening meetings held on the first and third Monday of the month.

To be eligible, youth must be Clark County residents and have an interest in sharing their opinions and perspectives about substance abuse prevention. Training is provided.

Yraceburu named to OCU honor roll

Kayla Yraceburu has been named to President’s Honor Roll at Oklahoma City University for the spring 2012 semester.

To make the list, students must earn a 3.9 GPA and take at least 12 credits.

College Bound deadline is set for June 30

The College Bound program is accepting applicants through June 30. The program provides an opportunity for students to attend Washington state colleges who might otherwise not because of the cost.

The first of more than 100,000 students who have signed up for the program since its launch in 2007 will graduate high school this spring and start entering college in the fall.

Eligible students must sign up in either the seventh- or eighth-grade.

The College Bound Scholarship provides tuition (at public institution rates) not covered by other financial assistance programs to eligible high school graduates who enroll at public colleges, universities and other higher education programs in Washington.

To be eligible for the scholarship, eighth-grade students whose families meet income requirements must sign up by the June 30 deadline and pledge to get good grades, demonstrate good citizenship and successfully enroll in an eligible higher education institution.

Income eligibility is re-checked in the student’s senior year in high school.

Dittrich graduates from Whitman College

Matthew Dittrich of Camas has earned a bachelor of arts degree in politics from Whitman College.The 2012 commencement ceremony took place on Sunday, May 20.

The commencement speaker was Eric Scholsser, author of “Fast Food Nation.”

Local resident earns BA degree

Cassandra Cole has earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

Cole is a Camas resident.
