OK, before we go too far let’s review May rainfall: Murphy Dennis, near Clark County Rifles, 5.23 inches; Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 4.29 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 2.92 inches; Bob Starr, Cougar, 6.85 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lakeshore, 3.25 inches; Bud Maddux, Home Valley, 2.87 inches; Pete Conrad near Tukes Mountain, 4.57 inches; Merle Moore, west of Yacolt, 6.34 inches; Barry Fitzthum, Amboy, 5.03 inches; Gary Collins, Brush Prairie, 4.08 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 4.53 inches; Phil Delany, above Dole Valley, 8.10 inches; Dan Hein, Camas, 3.94 inches; Larry Lebsack, Hazel Dell, 3.42 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 3.64 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 5.00 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 2.90 inches.

And we sure have had some good downpours lately. At least Friday’s thunderstorms were predicted — always nice to see a forecast pan out.

I got thoroughly soaked on the way to my car Friday. Moments later came the lightning and thunder, then hail pelting my windshield and the streets brimming with water curb-to-curb … déjà vu from a couple Fridays ago.

Saturday had only a few scattered sprinkles for the Grand Floral Parade. Today and Monday we enjoy warmer high temperatures — back to seasonal normals after a chilly start to the day. On Friday we hovered in the low 50s for the coolest high temperature since May 4th.

I think summer will start after the Fourth of July this year as usual. Last year, it was a tad late — OK, maybe a month or so.
