Vancouver’s Union High School marched away with top honors Saturday during the 100th edition of the Grand Floral Parade as part of the Portland Rose Festival.
Union won the Band Sweepstakes Award, naming it the best band in the parade, in an event that also saw honors go to marching bands from Heritage and Battle Ground high schools, as well as awards for band support to cheerleaders from Heritage High School. The Battle Ground Community Float also was honored with the Rose Festival Court Award.
The Grand Floral Parade, Oregon’s largest single-day spectator event, wound 4.2 miles through Portland and featured floats, bands, costumed marchers, equestrian teams and even a delegation of llamas from Southwest Washington.
