Washington State freshman Anna Adamko placed 19th in the women’s javelin competition Wednesday at the NCAA Division I outdoor track and field championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Columbia River High School graduate improved with each of her throws in preliminaries, but did not advance to finals. She opened with a mark of 141 feet, 7 inches and following with efforts of 146-1 and finally 146-9.
She was the third-highest placer from the Pacific-12 Conference.
Adamko set a personal record of 159-7 in the NCAA West Preliminary meet two weeks ago in Austin, Texas.
The top nine throwers Wednesday advanced to finals, with marks of 158-8 or better. The top eight earned All-America recognition, with marks of 161-3 or better. Oklahoma’s Brittany Borman won by almost 41/2 feet with her throw of 184-7.
