College Noteboook: WSU’s Adamko 19th in javelin at NCAA championship

Washington State freshman Anna Adamko placed 19th in the women’s javelin competition Wednesday at the NCAA Division I outdoor track and field championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Columbia River High School graduate improved with each of her throws in preliminaries, but did not advance to finals. She opened with a mark of 141 feet, 7 inches and following with efforts of 146-1 and finally 146-9.

She was the third-highest placer from the Pacific-12 Conference.

Adamko set a personal record of 159-7 in the NCAA West Preliminary meet two weeks ago in Austin, Texas.

The top nine throwers Wednesday advanced to finals, with marks of 158-8 or better. The top eight earned All-America recognition, with marks of 161-3 or better. Oklahoma’s Brittany Borman won by almost 41/2 feet with her throw of 184-7.

Vancouver’s Kara Patterson holds the American record of 218 feet.The college best and NCAA meet record is 202-10, set by Indiana’s Irina Kharun in 2004.

Northwest’s Governor academic All-District

Northwest University sophomore distance runner Meagan Governor was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 8 First Team.

The La Center High School graduate maintains a 3.86 grade point average as a finance and accounting major. Also a cross country runner in the fall, Governor was a CCC Scholar Athlete for the spring 2012 season.

She was a member of the NU 4×800 relay team that placed 12th at NAIA nationals and was seventh in the 5,000 meters at the CCC championships after being ranked 15th going into the meet. She was honored as CCC women’s track athlete of the week during March.

To be recognized, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.30 GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Northwest, a member of the NAIA Cascade Collegiate Conference located in Kirkland, is part of the District 8 College Division including NAIA athletes from Washington, Oregon, and California, Hawai’i, Alaska and Canada.

As a First Team honoree, Governor is eligible for Academic All-America recognition.

Bannister signs with CS Monterey Bay

Mount Hood Community College sophomore pitcher Christian Bannister accepted a scholarship to play baseball for Cal State Monterey Bay.

The school in Seaside, Calif. is a member of the NCAA Division II California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Bannister, a Columbia River High School graduate, recorded 18 saves as a sophomore with an earned run average of 0.78. He had 16 saves with a 0.00 ERA as a freshman.
