Covington band is No. 1 at parade

Four other county middle school bands also winners

Five Clark County-area middle school bands won awards in the Fred Meyer Junior Parade on Wednesday in Portland.

Covington Middle School of the Evergreen school district earned band sweepstakes, the top award.

Evergreen’s Frontier Middle School and Battle Ground’s Maple Grove Middle School took first in their classes.

The procession down Northeast Sandy Boulevard featured more than 50 entries including 29 bands. The parade also featured dance and drill competitions.

o Frontier Middle School won first place among bands with 100 or more members, edging out Hockinson Middle School, which took second place.

o Maple Grove Middle School finished tops among bands with 99 or fewer members. Tukes Valley Middle School in the Battle Ground school district placed third.
