An off-duty employee of the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office was sent to the hospital Saturday morning after he accidentally shot himself at a gun show in Carson, officials said.
Skamania County sheriff’s deputies were called to the American Legion Hall in Carson just before 11 a.m. after hearing reports of an accidental shooting.
When they arrived they found a Pete Tennison, 53, of Stevenson with a .45-caliber gunshot wound to the upper thigh, according to Jacqueline Garrity, spokeswoman for the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.
Tennison was immediately sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. He is in stable condition with minor injuries, the Skamania sheriff’s office said.
Garrity said Tennison, a sworn peace officer with a limited commission, supervises inmate work crews from the Skamania County Jail. He does not carry a firearm as part of his work, she said.
