Grotter graduates from Loyola Marymount University
Erik Grotter of Camas recently graduated from Loyola Marymount University, joining more than 1,300 classmates in LMU’s 2012 graduating class. Grotter earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Loyola Marymount University is located in Los Angeles, and is a comprehensive university offering 60 major programs, 38 master’s degrees and a doctoral degree in education from four colleges, two schools and Loyola Law School.
Camas resident wins scholarship
Allyson Dunlap of Camas has been awarded a General University: EWUF Campaign scholarship for $1,250 for the 2012-13 academic year at Eastern Washington University.
Dunlap graduated from Camas High School in 2001. She is currently a junior working towards a degree in biology with a minor in history at EWU. She spends time as a Big Sister in the Big Brother/Big Sister program.
She is the daughter of Cindy Morawski of Camas and Joe Dunlap of Spokane.
Jena Long earns degree from Miami University
Jena Marie Long of Washougal was among 3,219 students from Miami University who received degrees during spring commencement exercises Saturday, May 5 at Yager Stadium.
Long received a bachelor of science degree.
Miami University is a public university located in southwest Ohio offering more than 100 degree programs in humanities, science, engineering, business, education and fine arts.
Rakoski named to dean’s list
Alexa Rakoski of Camas has been named to the dean’s list at Notre Dame for the spring 2012 semester.
Students must be in the top 30 percent in their college to be named to the list.
Local man graduates from West Point
Cadet Kyle T. Schlauch, son of Ron and Deana Schlauch of Washougal, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) on May 31.
Schlauch is a 2008 Washougal High School graduate. While at West Point, he focused his studies in German and Russian.
He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the engineers branch and will report to Fort Riley, Kan., for his first assignment.
Camp Windy Hill has openings
There are openings in Camp Windy Hill’s Fairy Wonderland and Circus Arts camps.
The Fairy Wonderland camp is set for Monday through Thursday, Aug. 6-9.
It includes making fairy houses, finger puppets, wands and halos. Participants will also read fairy stories, enjoy a tea party under the big fir trees, and make a handmade paper journal for fairy drawings and stories. It is for children 5 to 9 years old.
There will be a Circus Arts camp for children ages 6 to 11, from Monday to Thursday, Aug. 13 to 16.
Participants will create their own miniature one-ring circus, draw a circus poster, design a clown hat and dress in circus clothes. They’ll also make balloon animals, learn to juggle, walk on stilts, do face painting, play outdoor circus games and tame a “tiger” on Circus Day.
