The Washington State Patrol says the occupants of a pickup truck are lucky to be alive after colliding with an Amtrak train going nearly 80 mph at a crossing in Tenino in Thurston County.

Trooper Guy Gill says three people were taken to a hospital Saturday afternoon with non-life-threatening injuries.

Thurston County sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin told KOMO (http://is.gd/UENRov ) the car was trying to turn around in a private drive at the crossing when it was sideswiped and knocked on its side.

Passengers were being bused, at least temporarily, to stations along the line including Vancouver. An evening train from Seattle was due to arrive 50 minutes late.
