A 17-year-old driver was injured — but managed to walk away — from a high-speed accident near La Center this afternoon.
The accident occurred along Northeast Lockwood Creek Road, in about the 3600 block. It was reported at 1:49 p.m.
Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy of Clark County Fire and Rescue said the driver, a boy whose name was not released, was driving a small sedan westbound on Lockwood Creek Road when he lost control, ran off the south side of the pavement, sheared off a power pole, flew in the air, hit a tree, and finally came to rest in the ditch.
The driver had been wearing his seat belt and was able to unbuckle it and walk about 25 feet to the road, where firefighters found him lying on the shoulder of the road. He was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center for treatment.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the accident.
