How I love that we can have seasons within seasons to delight the day away. Thursday night into early Friday we had quite a light show as thunderstorms moved over the Cascades and into the western valleys complete with scattered rains. At one time in Salmon Creek the raindrops were the size of quarters at least!
The lightning struck a large Douglas fir tree in Hazel Dell, opening a crack that you could see daylight shining through.
Amazing how something that has stood tall for decades can be struck down in a flash. And sadly, the tree was being removed. Another reminder not to shelter under tall trees in a thunderstorm — get or stay inside!
Getting back to the seasons, yes it is summer but on my way to the ocean Friday afternoon, it appeared anything but. It was overcast in Vancouver but at Longview the skies let loose and I had my wipers on high speed. It rained or drizzled all the way to Astoria.
