People in business

• Phil Wuest has joined the law firm of Duggan Schlotfeldt & Welch PLLC. His practice will focus on land-use, zoning entitlement, real property, construction and litigation claims. His former position was transportation program development manager for the city of Vancouver.

• Sekou Caldwell of the Horenstein Law Group has joined the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes’ board of directors. Caldwell is a real-estate and land-use attorney. The mission of the association for blind athletes is to provide opportunities for blind and visually impaired people to become engaged in physical activity and sports.

• Home Instead Care in Vancouver has appointed marketing and business development executive Carly McDowell to the Vancouver office’s community relations manager post. McDowell will provide outreach to Clark County seniors and senior-care companies.

• Jessica McConnell of Vancouver is one of five lawyers from the Portland commercial law firm of Greene & Markley P.C. who were honored in the 2012 issue of Oregon Super Lawyers magazine. McConnell was selected as a Rising Star. The publication identifies the top five percent of attorneys in the state, as chosen by their peers and through the research of Super Lawyers, which is a service of the Thomson Reuters, legal division.

• Dr. Evan D. Ellis, an orthopedic surgeon with asubspecialty interest in knee, shoulder and sports medicine, has joined Rebound Orthopedica & Neurosurgery. Ellis’ undergraduate training was at the Johns Hopkins University. He earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School.

• Ryan Nisle has been named to the board of directors for the American Red Cross of Southwest Washington. Nisle is a partner at law firm Miller Nash in its business department in Vancouver. His practice focuses primarily on tax and business law. He joined the firm in 2001.

Other business news

• The U.S. Small Business Administration office in Portland has named Wells Fargo as its 2012 Community Spirit Lender of the Year. Wells Fargo was selected based on its lending to socially or economically disadvantaged business owners in Oregon and Washington. It made the highest percentage of loans to veteran-, minority- and female-owned small businesses in fiscal year 2011 in this region.

• The Queen of Peace bookstore at 8071/2 Grand Blvd., celebrated its 20th year in business on July 16. In the past 20 years, it has offered more than 5,000 Catholic publications, music, films and gift items for sale. It also sells more than 2,000 items online. * http://www.queenofpeacebooks.com.
