What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:
The Seattle Times has a poll going asking who is the best baseball player born in Washington?
As of Friday night, Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg (born in Spokane) was running away with the 48 percent of the vote.
Second place was the late Ron Santo (born in Seattle), who will be posthumously inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday.
Seattle Times baseball reporter Larry Stone writes about how happy Santo would be, yet how sad Stone himself is that the honor came too late.
“Santo’s family wants to eliminate the ‘bitter’ part, because Ron was the antithesis of a bitter man. And that was what made him so remarkable, because he had every right to lean in that direction after enduring dozens of operations and ultimately the amputation of both legs below the knee. All that on top of the enduring disappointment of not getting to experience the jubilation of finally getting the Hall call, and getting to make that festive trip to Cooperstown.”

One week from today we will be awash in the Summer Olympics.
London will be a place where unknown athletes get their 15 minutes of fame, and familiar stars will again be in the spotlight.
Many will follow athletes via social media like Facebook and Twitter.
One place for one-stop shopping for athlete’s Twitter accounts is the Pac-12 Conference website.
The Pac-12 states there will be 239 athletes, coaches and other officials at the London Games with ties to the Pac-12 — more than any major conference.
You can find this list on the website, and it also includes hotlinks to official Twitter accounts of the athletes so you can follow them as they compete for Olympic medals.
Not into the Olympics? Well how about the NFL! (insert dramatic Monday Night Football intro)
One week from today we will also be awash in training camps news. Who’s in, who’s out (of shape), and who is holding out because they really don’t like practicing in hot weather. All that good stuff.
The Seattle Seahawks will begin their starting quarterback tryouts, er, competition.
Who ya got? Off-season acquisition/flavor-of-the-month Matt Flynn, incumbent Tarvaris Jackson, or rookie Russell Wilson?
