That got us thinking about closer to home.
McKenzie Stadium, home to the four high schools in the Evergreen district, is getting Field Turf installed this summer.
We suggest a red/black scheme from the 25-yard line to the end zone on the east end of the stadium for Union. From the 25 to the 50, go with green for Evergreen. From the 50 to the west side of the stadium’s 25-yard line, it’s gotta be Mountain View blue, and from the 25 to the end zone it should be Heritage purple.
The end zones should be left blank. At the end of each season, whichever team has the better record gets to have the end zones painted in its colors.

There has been a lot of talk about the NCAA giving Penn State the “death penalty” for its cover-up regarding Jerry Sandusky. Certainly, there was lack of institutional control.
We’d rather see the new leadership at Penn State take a stand and not wait for the NCAA to get involved. How about suspending the football program for a year or so? Let the new leadership remind the Penn State community that it is not all about football.
Football became so big, so profitable, that it was better to hide a child rapist and hope that no one would find out than to face the embarrassment for the program.
Sandusky is the criminal. The cover-up, though, is the scandal.
Yes, we know that the current football players had nothing to do with the cover-up. Those players need consideration, too. So the university can still honor the scholarships and let them go to school for free. Or the NCAA could allow the athletes to find scholarships elsewhere.
Regardless, does anyone really want to watch Penn State play football this year? Just one big black cloud over every game.
