Clark County fire marshals are investigating fireworks-related arsons reported Thursday night and early Friday.

Deputy Fire Marshal Richard Martin is investigating a damaged community mailbox in the 11300 block of Northeast Ninth Avenue in Hazel Dell. He said a firework was put inside the package container of the mailbox and ignited, damaging the box.

Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Evanson responded to a similar incident near the intersection of Northwest 127th Street and 26th Avenue in Felida. The package container of the mailbox was blown up from the inside.

Evanson also responded to Sunset Elementary School in the Five Corners area where the school’s mailbox was filled with consumer fireworks and blown up.

Evanson said he suspects the cases involving community mailboxes are probably related.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating. Evanson said people with information should call 911.
