Four members of the Vancouver Rifle and Pistol Club participated in the 2012 USA Shooting National Championships and Olympic Team Trials in June at Fort Benning, Ga., in June.

Over the course of five days, Colton Sybouts, Jamie Carlson, Spencer Frasier and Kyle Ueltschi competed in the 10-meter air rifle and 50-meter three position smallbore events.

Ueltschi won the gold medal for B and C-class shooters in the men’s air rifle competition. His total score was 1,065. Frasier took second in the B/C class air rifle competition.

Carlson and Sybouts put up personal best scores during at least one of the events.

Clark County Competitive Shooters and the Vancouver Rifle and Pistol Club helped with fundraising to send the local shooters to the national championships.

Soccer teams bound for nationals

Five youth soccer teams from Clark County have qualified for the U.S. Club Soccer National Cup Finals.

By winning a regional tournament in late June in Seattle, Salmon Creek SC Nemesis (under-12 girls), Pacific FC Ice (under-13 girls), the Vancouver Timbers Red (under-17 girls), Vancouver Timbers Red (under-16 boys) and Vancouver Timbers Blue (under-17 boys) qualified to play in the national championship tournament scheduled for July 27-30 in Waukegan, Ill.

All five of the local teams headed to nationals are in the Premier Group, which is the tournament open to all teams. The National Cup also includes a separate Super Group for selected elite teams.

U.S. Club Soccer is a member of the U.S. Soccer Federation. It offers regional and national tournaments for youth and adult teams. Its tournaments are separate from the U.S. Youth Soccer national championship tournaments.
