North Salmon Creek — Mathematicians from Skyview High School excelled in the 2011 Ciphering Time Trials, a national contest administered by National Assessment & Testing.
There were 10 rounds in which students had to solve three problems in three minutes; advanced students had to solve all three, while the less advanced students had to decide which ones to skip.
Isaak Jensen placed 24th in the ninth-grade division, and Fred Lu placed fifth in the 12th-grade division; their scores helped lift Skyview to an 18th place finish overall. The team is coached by math teacher Mahen Malixi.
