Northeast Hazel Dell — Matthew Bacon was diagnosed with advanced Hodgkins’ Lymphoma at age 10. Now, he’s 13 and doing fine — but he still recalls how donated toys from the charity Candlelighters for Children with Cancer kept a smile on his face during treatments.
To ensure that the toys keep getting to kids who need them, Bacon has created his own nonprofit group, Matthew’s Gift, that raises money for the Candlelighters. He raised $9,000 this holiday season and was featured on an “Everyday Heroes” segment of KATU-TV news.
His father, Robert, has taken to running marathons to help raise money for the group, too. Learn more about Matthew’s Gift at http://matthewsgift.org.
