Salmon Creek — A 2006 Skyview High School grad has been named the Coast Guard Sailor of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2011. BM2 Jim Farian was selected for the honor by fellow shipmates at the station in Depoe Bay, Ore. Only four individuals are selected each year for this honor. In addition to receiving a letter of commendation from the station officer in charge, he was presented with an engraved seaman’s knife and has been assigned his own parking spot at the station for the quarter. Farian has been in the Coast Guard for 5 years. After tours of duty in Alaska, Australia, Antarctica, Hawaii, South America and a temporary stint in the Gulf area, Farian is serving as a coxswain at Station Depoe Bay, Ore. He also serves as the head of rescue and survival systems, the station morale petty officer and the station’s liaison petty officer for Flotilla 53 of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
