I don’t know about you, but I like this new sleeker Columbian. It gives a slimming effect to my column photo.
Hey, did you know that Clark County was the perfect place to live last week — at least if you wanted to avoid Mother Nature’s fury?
If you lived a hour north, you found yourself buried in snow and ice with tricky driving and power outages. Schools in the Puget Sound region were closed all week, wiping out a big chunk of the winter sports schedule.
If you lived an hour east, you found similar conditions.
An hour to the south, schools were closing because of flooding.
So, in retrospect, things weren’t so bad here in Clark County. Really, we only lost Wednesday’s prep schedule, except those teams who were playing teams from a little bit north or east.
So here are the rescheduled events — at least the ones that we know about — on the schedule this week.
MONDAY: Swimming, Camas, North County vs. Mountain View, Evergreen, Union and Heritage; Wrestling, Union at Evergreen and Woodland at Hockinson; Girls bowling, Mark Morris vs. Columbia River and Fort Vancouver vs. Camas.
THURSDAY: Wrestling, Ridgefield, Kalama, Toledo at Stevenson.
Other postponed event have been made up already or we have not been notified of make-up dates.
Other events
There are a lot of regularly-scheduled events of note on this week’s docket.
TUESDAY: Columbia River hosts Mountain View in a key 3A Greater St. Helens boys basketball game. If the Chieftains win, they will clinch the No. 1 seed to the district tournament and at least a share of the league championship. But if the Thunder win, we could be headed for a two-way tie for first. The La Center girls host Castle Rock. The second-place Wildcats will try to slow the Rockets surge to the Trico League title.
THURSDAY: Mountain View takes on Hudson’s Bay in wrestling as the Thunder try to complete an unbeaten dual-meet record in the 3A GSHL. Also, the 4A and 3A girls bowling district tournaments will be held as bowlers try to earn berths to the state tournament.
FRIDAY: The Prairie girls basketball team can clinch the 3A GSHL title with a win over Camas.
Athletes of the week
Last week saw another exciting vote for The Columbian’s prep athlete of the week. With just a couple of hours left, the top two vote-getters were separated by just four votes with more than 500 vote submitted.
