What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

Everybody knows that the Super Bowl annually is the most-watched TV show in the United States. Last year’s game between the Packers and Steelers even earned stature as the most-watched program in U.S. history. But probably not many people know that the conference title games typically are the second- and third-most watched programs of the year. That’s for any type of programming, not just sports.
Today’s AFC and NFC championship games probably won’t live up to that lofty status in 2012. It’s an Olympic year, and the Olympics are a ratings giant. But it’s safe to say that plenty of people will be tuned in today. Remember, the NFL rules the world; the rest of us just live in it.

Congratulations to Clyde Drexler, who was honored this week for his community work in conjunction with Dr. Martin Luther King Day. Drexler received a National Civil Rights Sports Legacy award for his efforts with the Houston-based Drexler Foundation, which combats illiteracy among all age groups.
