Major League Baseball did a disservice to Barry Larkin the other day. For some reason, baseball decided it was a good idea to have the vote and announce the results on Monday.

Unfortunately for Larkin, his moment to shine in the 24/7 sports news cycle lasted about an hour. Two at the most.

It was the day of the BCS National Championship Game. (Yes, that game turned out to be terrible, but it was still the championship game for a mythical title.)

Baseball could have changed its schedule. Perhaps have it on Wednesday of this week.

Not much competition today. Some regular-season NBA, NHL, and college basketball games.

ESPN could have devoted more time to Barry Larkin and the Hall of Fame in January.

Instead, baseball struck out in the public relations department.
