Girls basketball: Washougal 41, Columbia River 35

Maddie Down scored 15 points and Sara Brown added 11 as the Panthers led 15-5 after the first quarter and held on for the non-league victory.

The Chieftains (0-13) overcame that double-digit deficit and most of the game was tight, but Washougal (7-6) made its free throws down the stretch while Columbia River was unable to capitalize on its free throws.

The Panthers finished 18 of 24 from the line, while the Chieftains were 10 of 23.

Kim Lowery scored 10 points as the only player in double figures for the Chieftains. Morgan Anthony grabbed 16 rebounds to go with five points.
