Talking Points: Luck can bloom on bench

The fact that there is a blossoming debate as to whether Peyton Manning and projected No. 1 pick Andrew Luck can coexist on the Colts seems preposterous if history tells us anything. The theory is that a healthy Manning will keep Luck on the sideline and not allow him to bloom, but if you ask Aaron Rodgers or Steve Young — waiting your turn behind a legend may be the ultimate career boost.

Rodgers sat patiently in Green Bay, learning from Brett Favre before ultimately getting his opportunity. Young did the same in San Francisco behind Joe Montana, and now he and Rodgers each own Super Bowl rings.

True, the league rules have changed in a way that better allows rookie quarterbacks to succeed, but Indianapolis should still take the best player available.

Rumor has it that teams would give up an arm and a leg for Luck — but is there really a better arm out there?
