Shahala students win Math Counts contest

Students from Shahala Middle School in the Evergreen district swept the Southwest Washington Chapter Math Counts competition Saturday at Clark College.

Ming Liu, Annie Lu, Suyash Gupta and Austin Jang won the team competition.

Jason Yu, Haeun Jung, Woodson Parker and Amanda Ripley finished second as a team, and Kobi Hsu, Mikayla Barney, Patrice Huang and Kevin Moody finished third.

In the individual competition, Lu finished first, Liu second, Hsu third, Parker fifth, Yu seventh, Gupta eighth, Huang ninth and Ripley 10th.

Seven Shahala students qualified for the state competition March 25 at Microsoft in Redmond.
