Britni Atwell, Heritage gymnastics
Heritage junior Britni Atwell has been voted The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for Feb. 13-18 based on a vote of fans on Facebook.
Atwell collected 43.7 percent of the 256 votes cast this week to edge out fellow gymnast Jennifer DeBellis of Columbia River who was in second place, at 40.6 percent.
Atwell won two state championships at the 4A state gymnastics meet, winning on vault with a 9.65 score and on floor (9.65). She now has six individual state titles in her career.
Other candidates were Union gymnast Jazmin Harris, and Evergreen wrestlers Matthew Nguyen, Michael Nguyen and Stephanie Simon.
