The Titans missed two shots in the closing seconds that would have sent the game into overtime as Federal Way earned the sixth seed from the 4A bi-district tournament at Mount Tahoma High School.

Union (17-7) next gets a rematch against Curtis (19-6) of University Place at 8 p.m. Friday at Auburn High School for a berth to state at the Tacoma Dome.

Union lost to Curtis 59-51 in the opening game of the bi-district tournament on Friday.

The Titans made up a five-point deficit in the closing minutes against Federal Way. Tanner Nelson’s 3-pointer with 45 seconds to play pulled the Titans ahead 51-49.

Federal Way’s Brayon Blake, who led all scorers with 20 points, tied the game on an inside shot.

Union then turned the ball over and Federal Way scored for the 53-51 lead.

Union had two last shots to tie, but couldn’t convert.

“Offensively, we need to take better care of the ball,” Union coach Maco Hamilton said of his team going forward.

Jordan Chatman had 18 points for the Titans, and Tyler Copp had 12.
