Lincoln — Rocky Mountain glow maples, Prairiefire crabapples and Japanese snowbells now line West 39th Street, after a December city street safety project saw 150 new trees planted.

“As the trees grow, they will give 39th Street more of a neighborhood feel, encourage slower traffic, act as a buffer for pedestrians and residents, filter pollutants, and beautify the neighborhood,” the Lincoln Neighborhood Association newsletter notes. “The trees were planted at no expense to the homeowners and come with a five-year maintenance package.”
