Sarah Toeaina scored 23 points, including seven free throws in the fourth quarter, as host Kentwood won the Class 4A bi-district tournament opener.

Battle Ground (11-9) will play a loser-out game at 6 p.m. on Friday at Puyallup High School. The Tigers opponent will be the loser of the game between Kentridge and South Kitsap.

On Tuesday, Kentwood built a 38-22 halftime lead and withstood several Battle Ground runs in the second half. The Tigers were within two points twice in the fourth quarter.

Battle Ground played much of the second half without Haley Grossman, who suffered a knee injury midway through the third quarter. Grossman — who had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals — tried to return to action in the fourth quarter but was unable to remain in the game.

Nikki Bond had 18 points and three assists for Battle Ground. Haley Hamilton had 10 points.
