Students and adults from Vancouver schools were among those who fell ill after participating in a cheerleading competition in Everett last weekend.

Reports of intestinal illnesses came in from around the region after Saturday’s state cheerleading competition at the Comcast Arena, according to the State Department of Health. About 3,000 people attended the event and 1,000 competed.

Among them were students and adults from Columbia River and Skyview high schools in Vancouver.

Three students and four adults from Columbia River reported feeling sick after the event, said school district spokeswoman Kris Sork. No reports had come in from the Skyview team.

Sork had not heard that any of the cases were serious enough to require a hospital visit.

Symptoms of the illness included vomiting and diarrhea. Health officials still are investigating what caused the outbreak.
