Try This: All the weekend’s a stage

Students from Battle Ground and Prairie high schools adapt “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” for the local stage. The student cast and crew will perform Shakespeare’s comedy about a group at a wedding who are tricked by the fairies who inhabit the forest. Meanwhile, Titania and Oberon, queen and king of the fairies, are quarreling over a changeling boy, which is creating even more mischief in the forest.

When: 7 p.m. Saturday.

The performance is one of several options for getting out and about this weekend. Others include a coronation and a concert.

2. Comedy night brings laughs

The Old Liberty Theater turns into a comedy club for a night. “An Evening of Honest Comedy” features Ian Karmel, who appeared on IFC’s “Portlandia” and won Portland Amateur Comedy Contest in 2010. Also on stage will be local comedians Sean Jordan, Anthony Lopez and Tynan Delong. The show will hosted by Todd Armstrong. Admission is limited to those 21 years and older.

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

3. Fit for a queen … of the fair

The coronation of the 2012 Clark County Fair Court sponsored by by Riverview Community Bank will feature fine food and entertainment, including a silent auction and a new game show. The 2012 Fair Court consists of Queen Marisa Hermance of Battle Ground High School, Princess Alexa Valdez of the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, and Princess Sierra Durado of La Center High School. All the proceeds from the event will go towards the Fair Court.

When: 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday.

Where: Main Exhibit Hall at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield.

Admission: $12 in advance, $15 at the door, free parking.

4. Casual, classical fun

Enjoy classical music in an intimate setting with a performance by the Vancouver Symphony Chamber Group. Named for the season, the Wintertide concert will feature the Columbia River Brass Quintet, which includes musicians from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, along with special appearances by the symphony’s pianist and principal clarinetist.

When: 3 p.m. Sunday.

5. ‘The Woman in Black’ gives chills

In this Victorian horror film, young lawyer Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe) is charged with putting a deceased client’s affairs in order. Upon his arrival, it becomes clear there’s a secret terrorizing the villagers, and no one is safe. “The Woman in Black” is rated PG-13.
