Vancouver police found a woman’s body in the Columbia River Friday. The also found an empty kayak and are trying to determine if another person is missing.

Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife crews spotted a woman in the river near the Interstate 205 bridge during a regular patrol around 9:30 a.m., said Capt. Scott Willis, a Vancouver Fire Department spokesman. Firefighters were dispatched to the water just before 10:30 a.m.

Vancouver firefighter Andy Sulla said crews recovered the body of a woman who was in her 50s. She had no ID on her and probably died in the last 48 hours, he said. She was wearing outdoor clothing and a flotation device.

According to a Vancouver police bulletin, crews also found an unoccupied kayak on the eastern tip of Government Island. It appeared the kayak possibly had two passengers, the release said.
